Job Description

Overview A well-established industrial services company in Michigan City, IN is seeking a detail-driven Accountant to join its finance team. This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You'll manage day-to-day accounting across a busy shop environment — handling the full cycle from AP/AR through month-end close — while supporting job costing, inventory, and payroll. If you like wearing multiple hats, working closely with operations, and seeing the direct impact of your work, you'll thrive here. Duties Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP. Perform balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses to ensure data integrity across all accounts. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing, vendor payments, customer billing, and collections. Support job costing for repair and service work — tracking labor, materials, and overhead against individual jobs to ensure accurate margins. Maintain inventory and parts accounting, including used-motor and machine-shop inventory tracking and valuation. Process and support payroll using systems such as ADP or Paychex, ensuring timely and accurate pay runs. Assist with month-end and year-end close, including financial statement preparation and audit support. Handle intercompany transactions and reconciliations across affiliated entities. Support sales/use tax filings and other tax-related documentation. Contribute to budgeting, cost control, and basic financial analysis to help management make informed decisions. Help maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes. Experience Proven accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing, construction, industrial, or service-based environment. Solid understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles. Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms. Familiarity with payroll systems (ADP, Paychex, or comparable). Hands-on experience with account reconciliation, journal entries, and general ledger work. Experience with job costing and/or inventory accounting is a strong plus. Strong math skills and exceptional attention to detail for accurate data entry and reporting. Comfortable working independently, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced shop environment. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred; CPA a plus but not required.
