Accounting Manager Primary Accountabilities:
The Project Accountant plays a vital role in the financial administration and successful execution of construction projects throughout their lifecycle. This position is an entry level position responsible for project setup, budgeting, job cost tracking, owner billing, subcontract administration, compliance documentation, change order management, and project closeout activities. The Project Accountant works closely with Project Managers, Operations, Accounting, subcontractors, suppliers, and project owners to ensure accurate financial reporting, contract compliance, and timely processing of project-related documentation.
Major Duties:
Manage project accounting activities throughout the full project lifecycle, from setup through closeout. Enter project budgets, maintain job cost records, and monitor financial performance against project forecasts. Prepare and process owner billings, AIA applications, retention tracking, and accounts receivable support. Administer subcontract agreements, change orders, and vendor documentation. Ensure compliance with contractual, insurance, bonding, lien waiver, and project documentation requirements. Track and process owner, subcontractor, and internal change orders while maintaining accurate project budgets and financial records. Generate project financial reports and support monthly reconciliations, forecasting, and financial reviews. Coordinate project closeout activities, including final billing, documentation, warranties, and record archiving. Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Operations, Accounting, subcontractors, suppliers, and owners to ensure accurate reporting, timely processing, and successful project execution. Maintain organized project files and documentation across company systems and project management platforms. Qualifications Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant certifications, vocational training, and/or 2+ years of hands-on experience in accounting, job costing, or project financial administration. Preferred 3-5+ years of accounting, project accounting, or related experience in construction. Experience with project-based accounting and job costing methodologies. Understanding construction contracts, billing processes, retention, and change order management. Familiarity with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting principles preferred. Strong document management and recordkeeping skills. Physical Demands Regularly required to sit, use hands to type, handle documents, and operate standard office equipment. Frequently required to talk, hear, and communicate in person and via telephone or video. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus for prolonged computer use. Work Environment Professional office environment. Fast-paced, deadline-driven construction environment. Frequent interaction with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
