Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a team in Overland Park, Kansas on a Contract basis. This position supports core accounting operations with a focus on financial close activities, account analysis, reconciliations, and project-related accounting review. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical ability, sharp attention to detail, and advanced spreadsheet skills to manage a high volume of financial data accurately and efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Manage month-end close activities by preparing entries, reviewing balances, and helping ensure timely completion of reporting deadlines.
- Perform detailed general ledger analysis and reconcile accounts to confirm accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and post journal entries and adjustment entries in support of routine accounting operations.
- Review invoices against related equipment or project records to verify proper application and financial treatment.
- Investigate outstanding purchase orders, determine the cause of open items, and support efforts to bring records to closure.
- Conduct bank and account reconciliations while researching variances and documenting resolutions.
- Provide project close-out accounting support through analysis, tracking, and cleanup of incomplete financial items.
- Use Excel extensively to organize data, identify trends, and produce clear accounting support for decision-making.
- Assist with additional accounting assignments as needed to support departmental priorities and reporting needs. Requirements
- Experience in senior-level accounting work, including month-end close and general ledger support.
- Proficiency in preparing journal entries and completing account reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong working knowledge of bank reconciliations and financial statement support processes.
- Background in project accounting or project close-out review is preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to manipulate, analyze, and validate large data sets.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to investigate and resolve accounting exceptions independently.
- Familiarity with Oracle Fusion is helpful, but not required.
