This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing account reconciliations, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. The Staff Accountant plays an important role in safeguarding the credit union's financial integrity and providing key support for strategic decision-making. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Prepare and post general ledger journal entries Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly account reconciliations, including cash, investments, loans, and fixed assets Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes Maintain and reconcile subsidiary ledgers Monitor and balance share, loan, and general ledger accounts Assist in preparing financial statements and internal management reports Support budgeting and forecasting activities Ensure compliance with credit union policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements Assist with internal and external audits, including examiner requests Track and record fixed assets and related depreciation Review invoices and assist with accounts payable processing Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions Maintain organized documentation and audit trails for all accounting activities Knowledge & Skills The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems High level of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively Core Competencies Integrity and confidentiality Strong organizational skills Problem-solving and critical thinking Effective verbal and written communication Ability to collaborate and work well within a team Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 1-3 years of accounting experience Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in a credit union or financial institution Familiarity with credit union core systems, ALM software, and accounting platforms Understanding of credit union operations and financial products Knowledge of National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) regulations and reporting requirements Work Environment Full-time position: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM Occasional extended hours may be required to meet deadlines Ability to sit for extended periods and use standard office equipment Occasional travel required for community events, conferences, and industry networking opportunities
