Job Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the accounting department with a variety of clerical and bookkeeping tasks with an emphasis in processing accounts payable. This is a full-time position that reports to the Controller or their designee from our office in Wichita, Kansas. Responsibilities Receive, process, verify and reconcile invoices to ensure outstanding payables are paid on time. Compare system reports to general ledger balances and verify payable entries. Record expenses to appropriate cost centers and general ledger accounts. Process 1099's and 1096's annually in compliance with government-driven deadlines. Process and apply payments. Reconcile credit cards and ensure transactions have been properly categorized and documented. Maintain files by organizing, filing, labeling, and storing financial records. Perform various bookkeeping tasks as needed to assist others as needed during absences or tight deadlines such as year or month-end. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices. Familiarity with accounting information systems (AIS) Excellent time management and organization skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Exemplary attention to detail and ability to consistently produce accurate work. Strong deductive and mathematical reasoning skills. Ability to analyze and understand financial information Physical Requirements Mostly involves general office work; may involve extended periods of sitting or standing, such as when operating a computer or other office equipment. Infrequently requires movement between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work Regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to write and type May occasionally be required to lift, manipulate, or shift materials and tools up to 20 pounds; Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing and orally so others will understand Regularly required to utilize vision abilities, allowing reading printed material, graphics, or computer displays Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license. Work Environment and Conditions This role works in a standard, climate-controlled indoor office environment. Occasional travel may be required using a company-owned vehicle in varying weather conditions. Experience, Education, and Credentials Required At least 2 year's working with an accounting information system (AIS), MRI preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Preferred Associate's Degree or higher in accounting, finance or related discipline Accounting experience with a professional services or commercial real estate firm Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
