About the Role NYT CPA is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented individual who wants more than just a bookkeeping job. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn the full picture of accounting, payroll, tax, and small business advisory work — and grow into a long-term role with our firm. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their accounting career who wants hands-on exposure to client accounting, payroll, tax preparation, and client communication in a supportive but accountable environment. Recent accounting graduates are encouraged to apply. We are a client-focused CPA firm specializing in small business accounting and tax planning. We take pride in helping both our clients and our team improve year over year. This role is not for someone looking to simply enter data, complete repetitive tasks, or stay in a narrow bookkeeping lane. We want someone who wants to learn the "why" behind the work and become a valuable long-term member of our team. What You'll Do This role will grow over time, but responsibilities may include: Maintain and review client books in QuickBooks Online Perform bank and credit card reconciliations Assist with payroll processing and payroll compliance Support monthly and quarterly client reporting Communicate directly with clients by email and phone Assist with individual and business tax return preparation Organize client documents and identify missing information Review work for accuracy and completeness Identify inconsistencies, issues, or unusual items and proactively raise questions Learn firm systems, procedures, and client service standards This is a hands-on learning role with increasing responsibility as you develop. Preferred qualifications:
Some accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, tax, or related experience Basic understanding of accounting principles, including debits, credits, and financial statements Experience with QuickBooks Online, or the ability and willingness to learn quickly Strong Excel and computer skills Strong attention to detail and organization Ability to communicate clearly and professionally Comfort working with numbers, deadlines, and confidential client information Most important: Positive attitude Strong work ethic Willingness to learn Ability to take ownership Coachability Good judgment Pride in doing things correctly Genuine interest in growing within a CPA firm We are willing to train the right person on our systems, but we are not looking for someone who needs to be pushed to care, learn, or follow through.
