Construction Accountant

Job DescriptionJob Description Bay Country Contractors is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to manage the financial operations of our civil construction projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy of job costing, contract billing, financial reporting, and compliance across our operations in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.

Compensation:

$65,000 - $100,000 yearly

Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of construction accounting, including job cost tracking, progress billing, and expense allocation. Prepare monthly financial statements, WIP (Work in Progress) schedules, and budget-to-actual reports. Coordinate billing cycles, including AIA pay applications, lien waivers, and change orders. Track subcontractor and vendor payments, ensuring compliance with contracts and lien requirements. Maintain general ledger accuracy and oversee month-end and year-end close processes. Assist project managers with financial forecasting, cost tracking, and profitability analysis. Monitor accounts receivable and payable related to construction projects. Support annual audits, tax filings, and financial reviews in coordination with external accountants. Ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP standards, and industry best practices. Maintain financial documentation and job files in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 3+ years of experience in construction accounting or project-based accounting. Strong understanding of construction job costing, AIA billing, and WIP reporting. Proficiency in construction accounting software such as Foundation. Excellent Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet tight deadlines. Familiarity with certified payroll, prevailing wage reporting, and state/local tax regulations is a plus. Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional project teams.
