Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a long-term contract opportunity in Auburn, Maine. This position will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing tax-related documentation, and ensuring day-to-day accounting activities are completed efficiently. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger knowledge, hands-on experience with journal entries, and a solid understanding of corporate and sales tax processes.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to support accurate monthly and periodic financial reporting.
• Maintain the general ledger by reviewing account activity, reconciling balances, and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Assist with corporate tax activities, including gathering documentation and supporting the preparation of tax filings and related schedules.
• Manage sales tax records and help ensure filings are completed accurately and in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Support the preparation of corporate tax returns by organizing financial data and verifying the completeness of supporting information.
• Review accounting records for accuracy and consistency while identifying areas that require correction or follow-up.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide financial information, respond to accounting questions, and support reporting needs. Requirements
• Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.
• Hands-on experience supporting corporate tax processes and related documentation.
• Familiarity with sales tax reporting requirements and filing support.
• Ability to assist with the preparation of corporate tax returns.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Proficiency in working with financial data, account reconciliations, and standard accounting systems.
