The ideal candidate will have construction accounting experience, job costing and project billing experience, and knowledge of construction insurance requirements. The Project Accountant role is a onsite position. This is a direct hire position. Project Accountant Responsibilities Prepare and issue customer invoices, progress billings, sworn statement billings, and change order billings in accordance with project contracts and schedules. Monitor accounts receivable and collections to ensure timely customer payments. Maintain accurate records of project draws, deposits, allowances, and customer payments. Communicate with customers, vendors, project managers, and subcontractors regarding billing and payment inquiries. Reconcile customer accounts and resolve billing discrepancies. Process vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and expense reimbursements accurately and timely. Verify invoice coding, approvals, and supporting documentation. Manage vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies. Prepare weekly check runs and electronic payments. Maintain organized vendor files and supporting documentation. Assist with month-end close activities and account reconciliations. Maintain accurate accounting records, project budgets, and job cost information. Support budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow tracking activities. Assist with payroll-related accounting support as needed. Partner with project managers to track project costs, budgets, and financial performance. Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting procedures, and internal controls. Review and track insurance documentation and compliance requirements for subcontractors and projects. Assist with insurance-related administration and risk management activities. Project Accountant Requirements Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 3+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience. Experience in construction, home building, or another project-based industry strongly preferred. Strong understanding of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting principles. Experience with job costing, project accounting, and project billing processes. Knowledge of construction draws, change orders, sworn statement billings, and lien waiver processes preferred. Understanding of construction insurance requirements, certificates of insurance, and subcontractor compliance. Familiarity with builder's risk, general liability, workers' compensation, and commercial insurance concepts is a plus. Experience with construction accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Experience with Sage or similar accounting and project management systems preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. High level of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information.
