$80,000 to $90,000 If you have a powerful desire to help others and positively impact the lives of youth, emerging adults, and families who have experience with the Michigan foster care system, you should join The New Foster Care's (TNFC) team. TNFC is a Christian faith-based organization whose mission is to make a transformative change in the Michigan Foster Care system and a measurable and meaningful impact in the lives of youth who have experienced foster care. We accomplish this by partnering with the State and local agencies to develop, fund, and implement innovative pilot programs; researching and advancing policy and legislative action in the best interests of Michigan's children; and providing direct service programs that change the trajectory of youth with experience in foster care. TNFC's main transition services program, The Bridge, serves youth and emerging adults (ages 14 to 29), assisting them to achieve greater self-sufficiency and attain their goals along five l transition domains (Employment & Career, Living Situation, Educational Opportunity, Community Life Functioning, Personal Effectiveness & Wellbeing). The program model utilizes a treatment team approach, with a Transition Navigator, Personal Wellness Coach, Peer Support Specialist, and Attorney (as needed) assigned to assist the client on their journey. Position Summary The Senior Accountant is the senior, hands-on leader of TNFC's finance and accounting function and is responsible for the full, end-to-end execution and integrity of the organization's financial operations. This is an individual contributor role with ownership of all accounting, financial reporting, grant financial management, compliance, and audit coordination activities. The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with a dotted-line relationship to the Executive Director. The role operates with substantial autonomy in day-to-day execution while working within a defined oversight and escalation framework, with strategic guidance, review, and technical support provided by the CFO. The Senior Account in this role denotes ownership of the finance function and its outcomes, not management of staff. In addition to responsibility for TNFC, the role may periodically support finance and accounting activities for other affiliated organizations or business entities within the broader organizational group, as directed by the CFO. Such support is expected to be hands-on, time-bound, and coordinated to ensure priorities remain clear. Key Responsibilities Financial Operations & Accounting (Hands-On Execution)- Own and execute all day-to-day accounting operations for TNFC, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and cash receipts.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial records.
- Administer and maintain the organization's accounting system (e.g., QuickBooks).
- As directed, provide hands-on accounting or reporting support to other affiliated entities within the organizational group. Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets and statements of activities.
- Develop supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external use.
- Analyze financial results, identify variances, and surface risks or improvement opportunities.
- Provide regular financial reporting and analysis to the Executive Director, TNFC's Board of Directors, and the CFO.
- Support consolidated or comparative reporting efforts across affiliated entities, as requested.
- Support billing and reimbursement process (Medicaid or other third-party payers, as applicable).
- Ensure alignment between service delivery, documentation, and financial reporting requirements.
- Service line financial tracking.
- Cost reporting and prospective payment structures. Grants, Restricted Funds & Compliance
- Prepare, monitor, and manage grant budgets and restricted funding.
- Track expenditures to ensure compliance with grant agreements and funder requirements.
- Prepare financial reports for funders, government agencies, and partners.
- Support grant applications by developing budgets, financial narratives, and required financial documentation, as needed.
- Coordination between program and financial data for compliance Audit & External Coordination
- Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison with external auditors, funders, and financial partners for TNFC.
- Prepare audit schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate audit fieldwork and respond to auditor requests, with final review and oversight provided by the CFO.
- Support audit or compliance activities for affiliated entities, as appropriate and directed. Controls, Policies & Risk Management
- Maintain and document financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Conduct internal reviews to ensure adherence to established protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Safeguard confidential and sensitive financial information.
- Identify compliance risks and escalate issues appropriately. Collaboration & Leadership Support
- Partner closely with the Executive Director on operational and program-level financial matters.
- Work with the CFO on financial reporting, compliance oversight, audit preparation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide clear, practical financial guidance to non-financial leaders and program staff across TNFC and, as needed, affiliated entities. Reporting Structure

Executive Director Qualifications Education & Experience- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 3-5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit, government-funded, grant-intensive, or multi-entity environment.
- Demonstrated experience with audit preparation, fund accounting, and grant compliance strongly preferred. Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- High proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Experience with budgeting, grant tracking, and compliance reporting.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to independently manage a full finance function in a hands-on role. Core Competencies
