Doing:
Prepare state and local use tax returns. Learn and leverage available technology, including Alteryx, to achieve efficiencies and process improvements. Learn the sales and use tax laws in the states where Meijer operates; stay up to date with changes in the various tax laws adapting reporting changes when applicable. Review transactional data to ascertain the proper tax treatment, investigate discrepancies, research the corresponding tax law, adjust the accruals and return data; seek to prevent issue from continuing in the future. Assist in the data gathering, technical research and numerical analyses during use tax audits. Participate in cross-functional team projects for reporting requirements and tax exposure minimization. Become the lead person for sales / use tax matters on Meijer purchases of goods for its own use. Communicate with Meijer team members throughout the company and with vendors to provide or obtain information. What You Bring with You (Qualifications): Bachelor of Accounting or Business Degree. Previous professional experience in an accounting or tax role. Meijer financial and technology systems knowledge is a plus. Ability to quickly learn tax technical rules and the application to Meijer's business. Ability to quickly learn additional technology and systems. Strong organization and documentation skills. Analytical skills for the resolution of problems. Strong communication skills - both written and oral. Ability to form partnerships with the key business areas and throughout the Meijer vendor community. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, meeting tight deadlines. Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment. Ability to envision future changes while retaining memory of past practices / transactions to sustain historical tax positions under audit. Ability to think creatively when business or the law changes to minimize the impact on tax exposure and reporting.
