Our client is a well-established public accounting firm serving small businesses and individuals throughout West Michigan. Due to continued growth, increasing client demand, and upcoming succession planning needs, our client is seeking a Tax Accountant / Tax Professional to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with clients, taking ownership of relationships, and contributing across a variety of tax and accounting functions. Unlike larger firms, this role offers direct access to leadership, meaningful client interaction, and significant flexibility throughout the year.

What You'll Do Prepare individual, partnership, S-Corporation, and small business tax returns Perform proactive tax planning and advisory services for clients Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for assigned clients Conduct client interviews and gather information necessary for tax preparation and planning Prepare financial statements and related accounting reports Provide bookkeeping and client accounting services as needed Assist clients with payroll processing and related compliance matters Identify opportunities to improve clients' financial and tax positions Manage client relationships and gradually assume ownership of larger accounts based on experience Collaborate with partners and staff to provide exceptional client service Qualifications Minimum 2+ years of tax preparation experience Public accounting experience strongly preferred Experience preparing tax returns for individuals and small businesses Strong client communication and relationship management skills Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities Proficiency with tax preparation software and accounting systems Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Preferred Qualifications CPA designation preferred but not required Enrolled Agent (EA) credential welcomed Experience working with S-Corporations, Partnerships, Schedule C businesses, and closely held companies Experience with bookkeeping, payroll, and financial statement preparation Ability to independently manage client engagements with minimal supervision Prior experience in a small to mid-sized public accounting firm environment Compensation & Benefits Competitive compensation based on experience and credentials Discretionary bonus opportunity Employer-paid health insurance premiums High-deductible health plan with HSA option
