Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. In this role, you will support the organization's accounting functions by assisting with financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and financial analysis. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their expertise in corporate accounting, non-profit accounting, and financial reporting within a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills, a solid understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and a passion for continuous learning and growth. Duties Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP standards. Perform account reconciliations including general ledger reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft. Enter journal entries accurately into the financial system, ensuring proper debits and credits are recorded. Conduct financial analysis including cash flow analysis, budget variance analysis, and account analysis to support management decision-making. Assist with regulatory reporting requirements and ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls where applicable. Participate in internal audits and support external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and explanations. Contribute to process improvements in bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and financial management practices. Collaborate with team members on mentoring opportunities to foster professional development within the department. Skills Strong understanding of accounting principles including GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, and accrual accounting. Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft; experience with Microsoft Excel is essential. Knowledge of financial concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliation. Familiarity with regulatory reporting standards such as SOX compliance and securities law is a plus. Experience in non-profit accounting or governmental accounting is advantageous. Ability to interpret financial reports accurately and prepare clear financial statements. Excellent analytical skills combined with strong attention to detail; capable of performing bank reconciliation and cash flow analysis efficiently. Effective communication skills for financial report writing and interpretation; mentoring abilities are highly valued. Knowledge of tax experience related to Wills, trusts & estate law or other legal frameworks is beneficial but not required.
