The Staff Accountant / Senior Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of Vecino by ensuring the timely and accurate processing of accounting transactions, cash management activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role works collaboratively across departments to maintain strong internal controls, improve accounting processes, and support the organization's affordable housing development and management operations. The position may be filled at either the Staff Accountant or Senior Staff Accountant level based on the selected candidate's experience, technical expertise, and demonstrated ability to independently manage accounting responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Cash Management & Banking Facilitate check runs, outgoing payments, and related cash flow activities. Review accounts payable reports and assist with cash management planning. Initiate wire transfers, bank transfers, and other banking transactions for appropriate approval. Record cash receipts, deposits, loan funding transactions, and other cash-related activities. Accounting & Financial Reporting Complete monthly loan reconciliations and other assigned balance sheet reconciliations. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including: Journal entries Account reconciliations Financial statement preparation Support annual 1099 reporting and other year-end compliance requirements. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation. Collaboration & Process Improvement Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and efficient accounting processes. Identify opportunities to improve workflows, strengthen internal controls, and increase operational efficiency. Assist with special projects, audits, tax return preparation, and other accounting initiatives as assigned. Qualifications Staff Accountant Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Two (2) to four (4) years of accounting experience.
Experience with:
Account reconciliations Cash management Accounts payable and accounts receivable Month-end close support Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems. Senior Staff Accountant Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Five (5) or more years of progressive accounting experience.
Demonstrated experience:
Preparing financial statements Managing cash activities Performing complex account reconciliations Independently owning month-end close responsibilities Ability to analyze accounting issues and recommend solutions. Strong problem-solving and project management skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound professional judgment. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work. Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Pay:
From $65,000.00 per year
