Position Summary The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily accounting and financial operations of the City through accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, spreadsheet analysis, and general accounting support. This position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial records, assisting with month-end processes, and supporting the Finance Administration office with operational and reporting needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong Microsoft Excel skills, experience performing detailed account reconciliations, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced governmental environment. Prior municipal accounting or City Clerk office experience is strongly preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain account reconciliations for bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and interfund balances
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing processes
Review financial transactions for accuracy and proper coding
Analyze financial data and prepare supporting schedules and reports
Utilize advanced Excel functions to create and maintain spreadsheets, reconciliations, and financial analyses
Assist with accounts payable, receivable, customer service, and cash management functions as needed
Maintain organized financial records and documentation for audits and compliance reviews
Work with department heads and City personnel to resolve accounting discrepancies and obtain supporting documentation
Support internal controls and help identify process improvement opportunities
Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
Minimum of 2-5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
Governmental or municipal accounting experience is a plus
Experience with ERP/accounting systems preferred; familiarity with Tyler Technologies/New World is a plus Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and spreadsheet analysis
Strong reconciliation and analytical skills
Understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
