Job Description
Job details Summary Spherion $60,000
- $75,000 per year Permanent 8:00 AM
- 5:00 PM Industry accounting & auditing (Business and Financial Operations Occupations) Reference number S_175071 Job details The Staff Accountant will be part of the day-to-day accounting engine of the company.
Responsibilities:
Manage Accounts Receivable:
customer invoicing, credit memos, monthly statements, collections, cash applications, check scanning, ACH payment reconciliation, and past-due customer communications- Assist with
Accounts Payable:
vendor invoice processing, payment runs (ACH/check/wire), 1099 tracking, and vendor communication- Calculate bi-weekly Excise Tax liabilities & prepare quarterly Excise Tax filings
- Collect, validate, and maintain sales tax resale/exemption certificates for all wholesale customers; ensure compliance across multiple states. Full ownership of Avalara software organization & management
- Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing and related journal entries when needed
- Perform daily accounting activities including general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and credit card reconciliations
- Assist with inventory accounting (COGS, standard costing, variances, and annual physical inventory)
- Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting schedules (prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, depreciation)
- Assist the Senior Accountant with rectifying balance sheet & income statement accounts as needed
- Support month-end/closing duties
- Assist with annual audit, workers compensation audits, tax preparation, and sales/use tax filings as needed
- Help document and improve accounting processes and internal controls as the company scales
- Collaborate with sales and warehouse teams on customer-related accounting issues, when appropriate
- Identify and undertake projects and/or processes that will result in a more streamlined accounting system for the company Working hours: 8:00 AM
- 5:00
PM Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance strongly preferred
- 2-5 years of full-cycle accounting experience preferred (manufacturing, wholesale/distribution, or inventory-intensive businesses helpful)
- Prior exposure to multi-state sales tax exemption certificate management is very beneficial
- Familiarity with sales tax nexus rules, registering with states to remit sales tax, and VDA rules preferred
Education:
High School Experience:
1-4 yearsQualifications:
- Hands-on experience managing both A/R and A/P
- Experience assisting with payroll processing
- Strong GAAP knowledge and Excel skills; experience with ERP or accounting systems (SAGE 100) highly desired
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
