Forensic Accountant Investigator - ( 26141279 )
Division Overview:
The State's Attorney's Office in the Montana Department of Justice is dedicated to ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law on behalf of the people of Montana. The office includes the Solicitor General's Office, Criminal Prosecution and Appellate Services, Civil Services and Consumer Protection. The functions within the office include defense of Montana's laws as passed by the Legislature, constitutional challenges, determining legal sufficiency of ballot initiatives, prosecution of criminals, handling all phases of litigation from district court proceedings through appeal, and complex litigation of antitrust matters.
Job Overview:
The Forensic Accountant Investigator position is appointed in accordance with MCA 2-18-104 and combines accounting, auditing, and investigative skills to examine financial records for fraud, legal disputes, and compliance violations. The incumbent analyze complex transactions to detect embezzlement, trace hidden assets, and provide expert testimony, often working with law enforcement or legal counsel to support litigation and investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
Investigate Financial Crime:
Conduct investigations into fraud, bribery, money laundering, and embezzlement by analyzing financial documents.
Litigation Support:
Provide expert financial testimony and assist counsel in legal proceedings, including shareholder disputes and business closures.
Expert Testimony:
Serve as an expert witness in court, explaining complex financial findings to judges and juries in clear, simple language.
Asset Tracing:
Identify and track hidden assets in divorce cases, bankruptcy, and corporate fraud.
Financial Analysis & Reporting:
Reconstruct damaged or complex financial records, prepare detailed reports, and calculate economic damages.
Compliance & Risk Assessment:
Evaluate internal controls to detect weaknesses, prevent financial misconduct, and ensure compliance with regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Four years of accounting experience. Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF)
