WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
An employee in this position performs professional-level accountant work with a high degree of independence and is responsible for professional accounting tasks and fiscal control for the Town. Work involves advanced work of an accounting nature in the examination, verification, reconciliation, and analysis of fiscal records and reports. The employee prepares financial and statistical reports, assists with the audit and preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), and provides information on accounting practices and procedures. Work is performed in accordance with established municipal finance procedures, local ordinances and the North Carolina General Statutes governing the responsibilities of local government financial operations. This position reports to the Accounting Manager. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS
Prepares and manages the timely completion of various statutory and other required reports to regulatory agencies and assists in the Town's annual financial reporting. Prepares and processes monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports and other tax related forms, as required, including utility sales tax. Prepares annual NC Utilities Commission Report, including financial and operational information. Reviews daily revenue collection reports; reconciles and approves associated journal entries. Prepares a variety of complex journal entries. Reconciles various balance sheet accounts, including but not limited to central depository, investment accounts, and accounts receivables, and payroll liabilities and prepares reclass/adjusting journal entries as needed. Compiles and analyzes data; prepares spreadsheets for comparison, tracking and presentation. Prepares and records the Town's utility billing. Reviews invoices from the Town of Cary related to the jointly owned utility plants. Reviews, analyzes, and reconciles expenditures to the fixed asset database; maintains fixed asset master file. Prepares annual escheatment listing and submission to the State. Assists with month-end and year-end activities, the annual audit, and the preparation of the ACFR; responding to questions, providing requested information, preparing spreadsheets and researching accounts and general ledger entries. Researches GASB regulations and assists with implementing new standards. Advises departmental staff and related agencies on accounting procedures and reporting requirements. Serves as back-up to or in the absence of other staff. Performs related duties as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field and three (3) years of accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
