Job Description

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Accountant to join our dynamic team. This role is integral to managing financial operations specific to construction projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost control, and compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles, with specialized experience in construction or project-based accounting. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the financial health of complex projects while supporting organizational growth through meticulous financial management. Responsibilities Oversee project-specific financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing and accuracy. Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including balance sheet accounts, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards. Prepare detailed financial reports and analysis related to project costs, cash flow, and profitability. Conduct cost management activities by monitoring budgets, forecasting expenses, and analyzing variances. Manage account reconciliation processes for accounts such as payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Utilize ERP systems and accounting software such as SAP, Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks to record transactions accurately. Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and internal audit requirements. Support month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and financial statement preparation. Perform cash flow analysis to optimize liquidity management across multiple projects. Assist in the development of financial concepts related to project forecasting and budgeting. Interpret complex financial reports for stakeholders and provide insights for strategic decision-making. Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure accurate data collection and reporting. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in construction accounting or public accounting with a focus on project-based financial management. Proficiency with accounting software such as SAP, QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or ERP systems. Strong understanding of GAAP principles, double-entry bookkeeping, and technical accounting standards. Experience with SOX compliance, financial report writing, and internal controls. Knowledge of cost management techniques including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Familiarity with financial concepts such as cash flow analysis, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately. Effective communication skills for preparing reports and collaborating across teams.
