Position Responsibilities Monitors and executes banking transactions; Reconciles central depository and investment bank accounts; Monitors grant, capital and special project revenues and expenditures; Assists in the preparation of annual budgets and audits; Compiles data, prepares reports, and maintains files in accordance with Federal, state, local, and grant requirements; Computes, verifies, monitors, compiles, and prepares summarized reports for occupancy tax; Prepares escheats; processes returned checks; prepares bills and invoices for reimbursements; Reconciles accounts payable and accounts receivable; Maintains and reconciles files for property and liability insurance and maintains and processes claims; Composes and verifies accuracy of journal entries; Tracks and maintains fixed assets records; Files sales tax returns; Conducts internal audits on various accounts; Prepares vendor files for 1099 reporting; Maintains the departmental website; Answers questions and resolves customer complaint; Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer; Performs related tasks as required. Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting as applied to county government; thorough knowledge of modern office practices and use of standard office and accounting equipment; thorough knowledge of audit practices; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to prepare complex financial reports; ability to analyze and evaluate complex financial systems; ability to communicate technical ideas effectively both orally and in writing. Education, Experience, and Special Requirements Bachelor's degree with coursework in accounting, or related field and moderate experience in governmental accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit. NC401k The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%. Vacation Leave Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases. Sick Leave Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year. Paid Holidays County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary. ComPsych Mental Health Services The County provides Mental Health and Life Services through ComPsych to help employees and their families with personal, family and job-related problems such as counseling, crisis support, work-life resources, legal and financial consultations, and organizational support tools.
