Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for our distribution business in Raleigh, North Carolina. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, guiding period-end activities, and ensuring account balances are fully supported. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and a disciplined approach to reconciliation and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure financial results are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain the general ledger by recording and validating financial transactions in alignment with company policies and accounting standards.
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate documentation, analysis, and attention to detail.
- Perform account reconciliations on a recurring basis, identify discrepancies, and resolve outstanding items promptly.
- Complete bank reconciliations by comparing cash activity to internal records and investigating variances.
- Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to support accurate reporting and strengthen financial controls.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to gather supporting information, clarify accounting issues, and improve close efficiency.
- Assist with process updates or accounting-related system changes when needed, ensuring records remain consistent and properly documented. Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior-level accounting role with direct responsibility for month-end close activities.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and account analysis.
- Hands-on experience completing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
- Ability to investigate variances, resolve discrepancies, and maintain detailed supporting documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial analysis and reporting.
