Description We are looking for a Sr. Accountant to join the team in Shelby, North Carolina, on a Contract basis. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who can bring structure to existing financial records, strengthen core processes, and support accurate reporting across the business. The position will work closely with leadership to improve financial visibility, maintain day-to-day accounting activities, and help establish reliable accounting practices in a dynamic operating environment.
Responsibilities:
- Review and refine the QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise environment to improve accuracy, consistency, and usability.
- Redesign the chart of accounts to better support reporting needs, operational analysis, and overall financial control.
- Lead month-end accounting activities, including account reconciliations, journal entry support, and review of prior-period records to resolve historical issues.
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll-related accounting, and inventory transactions to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Develop and monitor work-in-progress accounting methods to provide clearer insight into ongoing projects and cost activity.
- Assist with connecting accounting workflows between QuickBooks and the payroll platform to support smoother financial operations.
- Collaborate with operational leaders and finance stakeholders to align accounting processes with broader business and tax planning objectives. Requirements
- Demonstrated experience using QuickBooks Desktop, including work within QuickBooks Enterprise.
- Background in construction, manufacturing, or other job costing environments, with strong preference for experience in complex project-based accounting.
- Practical knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and inventory-related financial processes.
- Ability to organize and rebuild accounting structures in environments that require cleanup, process improvement, and tighter controls.
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze data, support reconciliations, and prepare financial schedules.
- Experience with general ledger activity, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
- Proven ability to work effectively across departments and encourage accountability in financial processes.
