To provide a safe, caring, and fun environment, for youth to learn, grow, and prepare for a great future The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Red River Valley provides before-and after-school, all-day, and summer youth development programming to youth aged 5 to 17 years old in grades K through 12. We provide youth a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring mentors, life enhancing programs, character development, hope, and opportunity.
What We Do:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing all Boys & Girls Clubs of the Red River Valley financial functions including accounting, ancillary payroll functions, and financial operations, oversight of grant financials, collections processes, and legal requirements. This role will supervise the Billing Coordinator.
Primary Responsibilities & Activities:
Follow and establish policies and procedures for all financial management functions, ensuring appropriate controls and compliance with generally accepted accounting practices. Compiles regular financial reports (budget variance reports, general ledger updates, etc.) to support management-level decision making regarding the Club's fiscal health. Monitor day-to-day accounting processes to identify opportunities for quality improvement. Collaborate with the Chief Executive and Board of Directors to develop annual income and expense budget. Provide timely and complete reporting of financial results and recommendations for necessary actions to maintain the fiscal health of the organization. Lead and oversee annual budget preparation and presentation. Work closely with management to maintain, analyze, and interpret general ledger for all funds and manage the preparation and analysis of financial reports on a monthly and as needed basis. Lead annual audit process and work closely with outside auditors in implementing any recommended controls or procedures intended to improve Club financial recordkeeping. Secure financial support and resources by managing grant financials and related reporting and financial donations. Lead organizational planning and development of operating and funding account budgets and control expenditures against budget. Maintain financial records and recordkeeping systems to ensure compliance with all regulations, generally accepted accounting practices, requirements of government contracts, and organizational policies. Ensure accounts payable and receivable are maintained according to organizational policies. Develop familiarity with Boys & Girls Clubs programs and services, as well as any laws and regulations affecting the organization's work, ensuring compliance. Demonstrate the highest standards of individual conduct, personal accountability, integrity, trustworthiness, confidentiality, fair dealings, considerations of the rights of others, and the highest principles of good business relationships.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible work experience managing the accounting functions in a non-profit agency, or equivalent experience. Thorough knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices, processes and procedures of non-profit organizations. Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and coordinate operations in personnel supervision and budget management. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong organization and analytical skills. Ability to interact professionally with Club employees, Board members, volunteers, and other related agencies.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
Ability to perform work in an office setting as well as in a highly interactive and emotionally and physically stimulating environment. Required to stand, walk, and sit. Able to use hands and fingers on a (computer) keyboard and other office equipment. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Travel between club sites may be required. Must have a reliable and accessible mode of transportation to commute occasionally between club sites.
