Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a service-focused organization in Omaha, Nebraska. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone with a solid accounting foundation who can manage core ledger activities, support period-end close, and resolve discrepancies with care and persistence. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to daily accounting operations while helping maintain accurate financial records and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Record and apply incoming payments accurately to ensure cash activity is reflected correctly in the accounting records.
- Maintain the general ledger by preparing, reviewing, and posting entries that support complete and reliable financial data.
- Assist with month-end closing activities, including account analysis and preparation of supporting schedules.
- Reconcile bank accounts regularly, investigate variances, and drive issues through to resolution.
- Prepare journal entries and related documentation in accordance with accounting procedures and reporting timelines.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy and identify inconsistencies that require follow-up or correction.
- Support tax-related accounting tasks, including work connected to corporate tax and sales tax processes when needed. Requirements
- At least 1 year of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.
- Experience performing bank reconciliations and researching discrepancies independently.
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to organize, analyze, and validate financial data efficiently.
- High level of accuracy, strong attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to follow-through.
- Investigative mindset with a sense of ownership when resolving accounting issues.
- Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, or related tax accounting support is preferred.
