Carbon Felt Inc. is a manufacturing company specializing in the production of high-quality carbon felt and composite insulation products, including rigid thermal boards and soft felts for industrial applications. We are seeking an Accountant, who with the guidance of the Financial Controller, will exercise limited judgment to carry out moderately complex accounting functions and maintain financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role is responsible for coordinating general ledger activity, preparing financial statements, supporting audits and compliance processes, and providing financial analysis to assist management with operational decisions. The position requires close coordination with production and inventory teams to ensure accurate cost accounting and reporting through manufacturing accounting, which is more advanced than general accounting because it incorporates production procedures, material consumption, and manpower into financial records, enabling accurate cost control and sound business decisions. Specific job duties of this qualified-level Accountant position include: Monitor and process accounts payable and receivable transactions related to raw materials, supplies, and manufacturing services; ensure accurate and timely recording in the general ledger. Prepare, review, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and company policies. Perform month-end and year-end close procedures, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, and reconciliation of key accounts such as inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS), which are critical to manufacturing accounting processes. Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts; prepare variance analysis and management reports comparing actual performance against planned results. Support internal and external audits and tax filings by compiling schedules and documentation, including for inventory, fixed assets, and financial disclosures, and ensuring compliance with financial and regulatory requirements. Compile and analyze financial data related to production costs, material usage, overhead, and inventory levels to support accurate cost tracking and operational efficiency. Support the maintenance and improvement of internal controls and accounting procedures by identifying discrepancies, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions. Assist in evaluating and improving accounting and recordkeeping systems, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) modules related to inventory accounting/reconciliation and cost accounting, to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. Collaborate with operations and production teams to reconcile financial records with material usage, work-in-progress (WIP), and inventory balances for manufacturing accounting purposes. Perform special accounting projects and prepare ad hoc financial analyses and reports at the request of management.
