Job Description

Staff Accountant We're seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in maintaining the financial health of our hospital, ensuring that resources are managed responsibly so we can continue delivering exceptional care to our community. Your work will directly support our mission by helping us operate efficiently and sustainably. About Speare Memorial Hospital Speare Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital serving dozens of communities in the Lakes Region. What You'll Do:
Prepare accurate and timely journal entries, account reconciliations, and help with the monthly closing process Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring vendors and patients are served with accuracy and respect Support budget preparation and variance analysis to help departments make informed decisions Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with healthcare accounting standards and regulations Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and analysis as needed Generate financial reports for management review and decision-making Collaborate with department managers to address financial questions and provide guidance Help implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard hospital assets Support special projects and analysis as needed
What We're Looking For:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 2+ years of accounting experience (healthcare experience preferred but not required) Strong understanding of GAAP and financial accounting principles Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Preferred:
CPA or working toward CPA certification Experience with healthcare reimbursement (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance) Knowledge of hospital cost reporting Experience with ERP systems Why Join Speare Memorial Hospital?
