Job Description

Position Overview The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of owned, managed, or joint-venture properties. This role assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and reporting while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to company policies. The Staff Accountant will work closely with accounting leadership and property operations teams to maintain accurate financial records, support the month-end close process, and contribute to the overall financial integrity of the portfolio. Key Responsibilities General Accounting Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and adjustments Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of financial data Assist with month-end and year-end close processes Reconciliations & Financial Accuracy Perform bank reconciliations, including operating and security deposit accounts Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances Assist in preparing account analyses and supporting documentation Identify discrepancies and support resolution efforts Reporting & Budget Support Assist with preparation of property budgets, forecasts, and variance reporting Support preparation of workpapers for audits and tax reporting Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for reporting purposes Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned reporting tasks Portfolio & Operational Support Develop and maintain working relationships with property teams and internal departments Support financial inquiries from property management and operations teams Assist in monitoring financial performance and identifying trends or issues Systems & Process Support Utilize accounting systems (e.g., Yardi) and Microsoft Office tools to maintain accurate records Ensure data integrity across accounting systems and reports Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes Additional Duties Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management based on business needs Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 1-3 years of accounting or related experience preferred Experience in real estate, property management, or a related industry preferred Basic understanding of GAAP and accounting principles Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel Experience with Yardi or similar accounting software preferred Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High attention to detail and accuracy Strong organizational and time management abilities Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams Work Schedule & Availability Monday through Friday, standard business hours Ability to work additional hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed to meet reporting deadlines and business needs Essential Functions Support accounting operations, including financial reporting and reconciliations Maintain accurate financial records and documentation Assist with month-end close and reporting processes Collaborate with internal teams to support financial operations Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer Ability to occasionally stand, walk, and lift up to 15 pounds Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, and copiers Work Environment Office-based environment with moderate noise levels Fast-paced setting with multiple priorities and deadlines Frequent interaction with internal teams and property personnel About The KRE Group Kushner Real Estate Group (KRE) is a family-owned real estate investment and management company headquartered in Jersey City, NJ. $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
