Whitney Development is a growing real estate development and construction firm specializing in self storage and flex industrial projects nationwide. We oversee the full development lifecycle — from acquisitions, underwriting, and entitlements through construction and project delivery. We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive Part-Time Project Accountant to support our growing team.
Position Overview:
The Part-Time Project Accountant will support the financial and accounting functions related to our real estate development and construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or real estate development and be comfortable managing project financials across multiple phases of development and construction.
Key Responsibilities:
Track project costs, budgets, buyouts, and commitments throughout both pre-construction and construction phases across multiple projects Track and manage soft costs including architect, engineer, consultant, legal, permitting, and other professional service contracts against budgets, proposals, and executed agreements Prepare, review, and track

payment applications for subcontractors and general contractors during the construction phase Assist with the preparation, review, and management of construction draws and lender submissions Maintain accurate job cost reports, cost forecasts, and project budget tracking Coordinate with project managers and leadership regarding percentage complete approvals, pay application reviews, and project cost tracking Manage collections & follow up with clients regarding outstanding payments and account balances Maintain organized project accounting records, contracts, draw packages, and supporting financial documentation
Qualifications:
Prior experience in construction accounting, project accounting, real estate development, or a related industry required Strong understanding of job costing, project budgets, soft cost tracking, construction draws, and construction financial workflows Experience with
AIA G702/G703
invoicing and payment applications required or strongly preferred Proficiency in Excel Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and financial deliverables simultaneously Strong communication skills and confidence interacting with vendors, consultants, contractors, lenders, and clients
Position Details:
Part-time position (Monday-Thursday, hours flexible based on candidate availability) In-office opportunity based in Manasquan, NJ Competitive compensation based on experience
Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
