Our organization currently lacks tight COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) control, and we need someone who can establish a rigorous process that ties all costs directly back to the original quote.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for end-to-end cost tracking: from quoting, through final invoicing, to post-sale analysis. Ensure clear and accurate reporting of estimated versus actual costs for each job, shipment, customer, invoice, and item. Build systematic processes that capture all cost components, including raw materials, freight, warehousing, labor, and overhead. Identify discrepancies between estimated and actual costs, and investigate root causes. Provide regular analysis of COGS, profit margins, and variances at various levels (by job, customer, shipment, item, etc.). Recommend changes and corrective actions to improve cost accuracy, profitability, and operational efficiency.
Broader Impact:
This role is central to strengthening our COGS and profit analysis capabilities, and will drive company-wide improvements in cost control and financial transparency. The ideal candidate will not only focus on immediate cost tracking needs, but also branch out into broader COGS/profit analysis and recommend systematic changes and fixes to support the business's strategic goals.
Requirements:
Proven experience in cost accounting, financial analysis, or a similar role within a product-based business. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to design and implement cost control systems and processes. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally. Deep understanding of all cost components (raw materials, freight, warehousing, labor, overhead, etc.). This position is critical for our company's financial health and operational success.
