Business Administration Business Accounting Full Job Description Roles& Responsibilities:
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Runs payroll for various payroll cycles (Off-cycle's, Weekly, Bi-weekly, andMonthly)
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Providesupport for audits related to payroll.
  • Facilitateaudits by providing records and documentation to auditors and implementprocesses and procedures to improve payroll efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provideoversight and direction to Payroll union staff in performing tasks.
  • Participatesin the implementation and development of
NJ TRANSIT
policies and procedures tomaintain consistency, improve methodology and efficiency of accountingoperations.
  • Ensures accurate withholding of deductionsfrom employee pay, in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • OverseesElectronic Payments of employees pay, ensuring mandatory direct depositparticipation for specified groups of employees. Handle employee account setup,payroll payment reversals and bank returned funds, as well as creating manualcheck (replacements).
  • Responsible for accurate and timelydisbursements and reporting to third parties, including processing the weeklyand monthly interface files to Accounts Payable.
  • Performs and reviews analyses of selectedgeneral ledger accounts; identifies and resolves reconciling items andaccounting issues on a timely basis.
  • Responsiblefor all pension-related deductions, payments, and reporting. This includesdefined benefit plans, defined contribution plans and NJ State pension plans(PERS and PFRS).
  • Processinbound and outbound payroll interface files, while complying with requiredfile layout specifications, troubleshooting errors, and reconciling data.
  • OverseesNJ Transit Pension Payroll. Reviews and approves pension calculations, pensionand deduction refunds, voluntary/nonvoluntary deductions, taxes, direct depositand address changes.
  • Providesoversight direction to the clerical staff in the performance of specific tasksand responsibilities.
  • RunDiscoverer Reports and prepare detailed reports for third party payments, aswell as all levels of management to facilitate the flow of Payroll informationand resolve issues.
  • Testingfor periodic system upgrades.
  • Perform other duties and miscellaneousprojects as requested by management
  • Provideexcellent customer service to all internal/external customers.
Education,Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor'sdegree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources orrelated area
  • Three(3) to five (5) years of Payroll experience
  • Any relevant combination of relevant educationand experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Experiencewith payroll processing
Knowledge& Skills:
  • Knowledgeof payroll functions include preparation, balancing, timekeeping and accruals.
  • Requiredproficiency in (MS) Excel, spreadsheets, macros, Access databases, and other MSapplications.
  • Detailoriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Stronganalytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ableto multi-task and prioritize meeting deadlines.
  • Musthave excellent written and verbal skills.
Preferred:
Payroll HCM (Oracle) experience a plus.
