The Senior Accountant ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records. This role is responsible for liability and expense accounts, excluding cost of goods sold, including actuals, budgeting support, reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting related to accounts payable, accrued expenses, royalties, prepaid expenses, payroll, and related balance sheet items. Responsibilities also include supporting monthly close activities, audits, bank reconciliations, tax filings, and other assigned tasks. Key Responsibilities Maintain responsibility for the accuracy of liability and expense accounts (excluding cost of goods sold), including actuals, budgeting support, forecasting support, reporting, reconciliations, and journal entries. Manage accounts payable, accrued expenses, royalties, prepaid expenses, payroll, and related balance sheet accounts. Ensure accurate royalty reporting in coordination with Editorial and the Vice President of Finance. Support day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable & accounts receivable, journal entries, and monthly close activities. Ensure accounting activities are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with company policies and internal controls. Partner with internal teams to maintain efficient financial workflows and support compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company standards. Support accounting system implementations, upgrades, testing, and process improvements as needed. Support the monthly close process for designated areas, preparing and posting payroll, prepaid, accrued expense, and other journal entries. Prepare quarterly reconciliations of asset and liability accounts to ensure timely and accurate account management. Prepare and maintain monthly bank reconciliations for review and approval. Prepare and review expense statements and balance sheets to ensure accuracy and compliance. Develop and distribute departmental expense reports as needed. Support expense reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Provide financial reporting and insights to support expense management and operational decision-making. Process payroll within ADP Workforce Now, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws. Maintain accurate and confidential employee payroll records for new hires, terminations, and pay adjustments. Coordinate payroll funding transfers, benefit deductions, COBRA administration, and annual enrollment audits. Ensure vendor invoices are accurately coded, entered, and processed within budget and payment terms. Coordinate vendor communications to resolve payment issues and support annual 1099 processing. Support audit preparation by gathering documentation and partnering with auditors during audit cycles. Assist with sales tax and K-1 filings (monthly, quarterly, and annual) as required. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and support responses to surveys and financial inquiries. Skills & Competencies Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and financial reporting analysis. Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting requirements. Experience with enterprise resource planning or accounting systems (such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, or similar platforms). Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting monthly close activities. Familiarity with budgeting and forecasting processes. Strong analytical and variance analysis skills with the ability to identify and explain trends and discrepancies. Ability to interpret financial data and provide practical recommendations. Strong problem-solving skills in resolving accounting discrepancies and reconciliation issues. Ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiency. Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and audit support. Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders. Strong collaboration skills across departments, including editorial, marketing, sales, and operations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information appropriately. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting required. Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including payroll, human resource information systems, and account reconciliations; publishing or media industry experience preferred. Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements. Experience supporting audits, payroll administration, and expense management. Strong organizational and multitasking skills with exceptional attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and related office software.
Pay:
$36.00 - $43.00 per hour
