Posting Details The New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority (NMPSIA) was created by the New Mexico Legislature in 1986 to serve as a purchasing agency for public school districts, post-secondary educational entities, and charter Schools. Through NMPSIA, member schools are afforded the opportunity to offer quality employee benefits and risk coverages. NMPSIA currently provides benefits and risk coverage to all public school districts except Albuquerque Public Schools, all charter schools, and other educational entities. This posting will be used for going recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant lists may be screened more than once. Why does the job exist? The purpose of this position is to function as the accountant for the agency. This includes analyzing, communicating, and interpreting agency financial information for vendors, counterparts, State, local governments, and Board Members. The position works with SHARE financials, MIP (an external accounting system), and other external bank and investment accounts. The position is responsible for preparing and verifying reconciliations and financial documents, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and budget. How does it get done?
This position is responsible for:
Reconciliation of contracts (including payments, amendments, etc.) between the SHARE accounting system, MIP accounting system, and other internal documents. Reconciliation of bank and investment accounts (including daily, monthly, and ad-hoc reconciliations) to ensure cash is processed and accounted for properly. Prepare monthly budget projections for the agency. Process carrier admin and claims invoices to ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Monitor bank and investment accounts to ensure efficient cash flow to meet contractual obligations related to payments. Audit payment vouchers to ensure accuracy and compliance with MAPs. Prepare journal entries in the SHARE and MIP accounting systems as needed. Assist with the Authority's appropriation request and operating budget as needed. Prepare reconciliations related to payroll, cash receipts, accounts payable, etc. Serve as backup for Internal Fiscal Review, Risk Advisory Committee, and Board as needed with agendas, packets, minutes, meeting set up/facilitation, etc. Who are the customers? The position serves all of NMPSIA's staff, contractors, and members. Ideal Candidate The position serves all of NMPSIA's staff, contractors, and members. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting, exposed to a visual/video display terminal (VDT), and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
