Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a range of accounting activities for clients in the financial services industry in Amherst, New York. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable managing full-cycle accounting work, producing accurate financial reporting, and serving as a reliable resource for both accounting and related technology questions. The successful candidate will bring strong attention to detail, sound financial statement knowledge, and the ability to handle multiple client books with accuracy and professionalism.
Responsibilities:
- Manage accounting records for multiple client accounts in QuickBooks, ensuring transactions are entered accurately and records remain current.
- Reconcile credit card activity and other account balances to monthly statements, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Produce recurring and ad hoc financial reports, including monthly financial statements, to support client and internal review needs.
- Maintain customer and vendor master data, keeping account information organized, accurate, and up to date.
- Process client billing activities and oversee both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to support timely cash flow management.
- Review spending patterns and cash activity across various sets of books to identify issues and support informed financial oversight.
- Record payroll transactions with proper allocation by department, including related taxes, deductions, and withholdings.
- Monitor fixed asset activity and prepare depreciation schedules to support accurate accounting records and reporting.
- Verify, classify, reconcile, and post accounting entries while maintaining complete and reliable account documentation.
- Act as a knowledgeable point of contact for staff by answering accounting and technology-related questions and offering day-to-day guidance to team members. Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records.
- Demonstrated proficiency with QuickBooks in a multi-client or multi-entity accounting environment.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets.
- Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and general ledger activity.
- Knowledge of payroll accounting, including departmental allocations, payroll taxes, and employee withholdings.
- Hands-on experience tracking fixed assets and preparing depreciation schedules.
- High level of accuracy, organization, and analytical ability when working with detailed financial data.
