Job Description:
MLC Recruitment is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Corporate Accounting Manager to lead inventory accounting and accounts payable operations for our growing client in Syracuse, New York. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate inventory valuation, cost accounting, financial reporting, and efficient accounts payable processes while maintaining strong internal controls and compliance with
U.S. GAAP.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with leadership capabilities, partnering closely with operations and finance teams to improve processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and support business growth. Key Responsibilities Inventory Accounting & Cost Management Oversee all aspects of inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, reserves, obsolescence analysis, and reconciliations. Ensure accurate accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory. Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory close activities. Analyze inventory transactions and investigate variances related to production, purchasing, and warehouse operations. Coordinate and oversee physical inventory counts and cycle count programs. Review and maintain standard costing methodologies and cost accounting procedures. Monitor inventory turnover, aging, and reserve requirements, providing actionable insights to leadership. Accounts Payable Leadership Direct all accounts payable functions, including invoice processing, vendor payments, expense reporting, and account reconciliations. Ensure timely and accurate payment processing while optimizing cash flow management. Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships and resolve payment discrepancies. Monitor AP aging and ensure compliance with company payment policies. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to automate and streamline AP processes. Maintain appropriate segregation of duties and internal controls within the AP function. Financial Reporting & Compliance Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures related to inventory and payables. Prepare management reports and key performance metrics for executive leadership. Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and accounts payable staff. Establish performance goals and provide ongoing coaching and professional development. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant inventory accounting and accounts payable management responsibilities. 3+ years of people leadership experience. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks. Experience with ERP systems and inventory management modules. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Preferred CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification. Experience in manufacturing, distribution, consumer products, or inventory-intensive environments. Experience with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar systems. Experience supporting external audits and process improvement initiatives.
