Exempt Position Summary:
New York City Based consultant firm working projects. The selected Senior-level accountant will be based in Utica, N.Y working 5 days a week in office. The Senior-Level Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the long-term care facility through accurate accounting practices, financial reporting, account reconciliation, budget support, and regulatory compliance. This position assists with maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, preparing financial statements, monitoring accounts payable and receivable activity, and supporting audit and reimbursement processes. The accountant works collaboratively with department leaders and leadership staff to ensure financial accuracy, compliance with healthcare regulations, and effective fiscal operations within the organization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and maintain monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes. Reconcile general ledger accounts including cash, payroll, prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed assets. Support preparation of monthly financial statements and variance reports. Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable activities for accuracy and timeliness. Assist with Medicaid, Medicare, and third-party reimbursement reporting and documentation. Support annual audit preparation and provide requested financial documentation to auditors. Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and financial analysis. Review payroll-related reports and assist with payroll reconciliation processes. Monitor departmental expenditures and identify discrepancies or unusual variances. Prepare and maintain spreadsheets, financial databases, and supporting documentation. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational financial policies and procedures. Assist with tracking capital expenditures and fixed asset inventories. Support internal controls and recommend process improvements when appropriate. Maintain confidentiality of all financial, payroll, resident, and employee information. Collaborate with leadership and department managers regarding financial reporting and operational needs. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller or Director of Finance. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. Experience Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience required. Healthcare, long-term care, skilled nursing, or nonprofit accounting experience preferred. Experience with general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliations required. Experience with healthcare reimbursement systems and payroll processes preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Knowledge of healthcare financial regulations and reimbursement practices preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and operation of office equipment. Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally. Work Environment Professional office environment within a healthcare and long-term care setting. Frequent interaction with leadership, department managers, staff, auditors, vendors, and external agencies. May require occasional attendance at meetings outside normal business hours.
