EANDC develops, owns, and manages market rate and affordable housing for low-income, elderly, and veteran residents in Summit County and Stark County, Ohio. We are the largest provider of affordable housing in Metropolitan Akron. EANDC also provides home buying counseling, energy efficiency audits, free energy-efficient appliances, and more to qualified Summit and Stark County residents.
General Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
A Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization's accounting and financial operations. This position involves managing daily financial tasks, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and helping prepare financial reports. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and has a strong understanding of accounting principles. The Staff Accountant is an exempt full-time position that reports to the Finance Manager and will undertake special projects and tasks as assigned. General tasks and responsibilities of this role are outlined below.
Key Responsibilities:
Property Level Accounting & Reporting Prepare and review monthly financial statements for a portfolio of commercial and residential properties Perform detailed variance analysis against budget and prior periods Maintain accurate property level general ledgers Month-End Close & Reconciliations Prepare Journal entries, accruals, and reclasses Complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations across multiple entities Review and reconcile intercompany transactions Assist with monthly close and reporting packages Commercial & Residential Specific Functions Process and reconcile CAM (Common Area Maintenance) charges and annual true ups Track TI (Tenant Improvements) and leasing commissions amortization/depreciation Monitor utility reimbursements and tenant bill backs Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation expenses by property Budgeting and Financial Analysis Assist with annual property budgets and reforecasts Support lender reporting requirements Partner with property and asset management to analyze expense trends Ensure expenses align with approved budgets and contracts Compliance and Audit Assist with year-end audit support Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to internal accounting controls Maintain organized documentation for portfolio transactions and vendor contracts
Required Skills:
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial regulations Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or SAP) and MS Excel The ability to maintain an elevated level of integrity, strict confidentiality, and a positive professional attitude is critical Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. Strong effective professional, communication, and technical writing skills Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening Willingness to volunteer at hosted organization events
Preferred Qualifications:
2-4 years of accounting experience preferred Experience with ERP software systems
Work Environment:
Typically, work is performed in an office setting May require occasional overtime during busy periods, such as month-end or audit
