Dunn Carney LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Legal Accounting Generalist to join our dynamic accounting team. This critical role will be primarily responsible for overseeing the timely and accurate client billing process. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of billing cycles within a professional services environment, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to manage complex billing requirements. Position Summary We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Legal Accounting Generalist to join our firm's accounting department. This role is designed for a professional who enjoys a mix of dedicated responsibilities and team-wide collaboration. The successful candidate will manage the billing cycle for a specific group of attorneys while providing essential support for payroll, general ledger maintenance, and other core accounting functions. Key ResponsibilitiesLegal Billing Ownership
  • Take full, independent ownership of the billing cycle for a designated group of 8-10 attorneys, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with client-specific billing requirements.
  • Review and edit pre-bills for accuracy and compliance with client-specific billing guidelines.
  • Coordinate the distribution of final invoices and handle electronic billing (e-billing) submissions via third-party platforms.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for billing inquiries, providing clear, professional guidance to attorneys, staff, and clients.
  • Monitor billing progress and deadlines, ensuring consistent follow‑through and resolution of outstanding items.
  • Serve as primary AR coordinator on attorney billing caseload Payroll & General Ledger Support
  • Prepare and process payroll journal entries and ensure accurate account allocations.
  • Maintain confidential payroll records and serve as the primary backup for full payroll processing.
  • Assist with General Ledger (G/L) maintenance, including account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Support the finance team during month-end and year-end closing processes. Operational Versatility & Backup Support
  • Provide essential backup support for Accounts Payable (AP), including invoice entry and check run preparation.
  • Assist with daily cash receipts, bank deposits, and trust account entries as needed.
  • Willingness to cross-train and step into various accounting roles to support the team during peak periods or absences. Qualifications & Skills
Technical Proficiency:
Familiarity with legal accounting software and strong competency in Microsoft Excel. Aderant exposure a plus.
    Detail Orientation:
    Exceptional accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
      Communication:
      Ability to interact professionally with attorneys, firm leadership, and external vendors.
