Job Description
Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to develop foundational accounting skills within a dynamic organization committed to financial integrity and compliance. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting various accounting functions, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. This role is ideal for individuals eager to grow their expertise in corporate and non-profit accounting environments while contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. Responsibilities Assist with general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment preparation, and cash flow analysis. Contribute to financial statement preparation by gathering data, verifying figures, and interpreting financial reports in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Participate in bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and regulatory reporting to maintain compliance and transparency. Help with month-end and year-end closing procedures, ensuring timely completion of all tasks. Support internal audits by preparing documentation related to financial transactions and compliance requirements such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act). Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft to record transactions accurately and efficiently. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities to support management decision-making. Maintain organized records of financial documents including wills, trusts & estate law documentation when applicable. Collaborate with team members on process improvements and mentoring new staff or interns as needed. Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant internships or entry-level experience preferred. Basic understanding of accounting principles such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, accrual accounting, and financial concepts. Familiarity with financial software tools including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as GAAP and Securities law is advantageous. Exposure to governmental accounting or non-profit accounting practices is a plus. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial reports accurately. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication skills for collaborating across teams and mentoring junior staff.
