Exempt, Full-time Position Summary The Accountant oversees the day-to-day accounting and finance operations for Trailhead Community Health Foundation, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and timely compliance with all applicable requirements. This role partners closely with the CFO to deliver clear financial insights, support budgeting and cash-flow management, and strengthen operational processes. In addition, the position provides administrative support for basic human resources functions, helping ensure consistent, well documented, and compliant practices in alignment with the Foundation's mission and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Operations Maintain the general accounting system for the Foundation, including the general ledger and related schedules. Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank deposits, and journal entries with appropriate documentation and approvals. Perform monthly bank, investment, and general ledger reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Maintain accurate accounting for restricted and unrestricted funds, including donor and grant activity. Support month‑end and year‑end close processes. Financial Reporting & Compliance Assist the CFO with preparation for the annual audit. Support the CFO with preparation of the Foundation's IRS Form 990 and other required federal and state filings. Ensure accounting practices comply with
GAAP, IRS
regulations, and nonprofit accounting standards. Human Resources Administration Provide administrative support for HR operations in coordination with leadership and/or external HR providers. Maintain employee personnel files, HR records, and confidential documentation. Support onboarding and offboarding processes, including documentation checklists and coordination with payroll and benefits vendors. Assist with payroll administration and act as a liaison with the payroll service provider. Support benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and annual renewal documentation. Assist with routine HR compliance tasks, including required postings, reporting deadlines, and policy acknowledgements. Systems, Policies & Special Projects Support implementation and improvement of accounting, payroll, or HR systems as the Foundation grows. Provide financial and administrative support for special projects as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (preferred). 5-7 years of accounting experience; nonprofit or foundation experience strongly preferred. Experience with payroll processing or HR administration is a plus. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Comfortable working independently in a startup or growth‑stage environment.
