Since its creation in 1996, OCFO's mission is to ensure the financial integrity and long-term fiscal health of the District. OCFO accomplishes this mission by ensuring balanced budgets, unqualified or "clean" audit opinions, and access to quality credit markets with high and improving bond ratings. OCFO's operational responsibilities include forecasting the District's revenues and financial condition, developing and managing the District's budget, administering the District's taxes, and executing and recording the District's financial transactions. In addition, OCFO administers the District's lottery and gaming programs, and oversees the finances of the University of the District of Columbia and the Washington Convention and Sports Authority (Events DC). We are in search of a Accountant . The incumbent is responsible for examining, analyzing, understanding, and interpreting accounting systems, records, and reports and providing financial advice and assistance on accounting/financial management matters to the programs. Additional duties include, but are not limited to: Accounting and Analysis Preparing and interpreting financial reports, statements, and data. Advising management on the status of accounts and recommending alternatives. Performing reconciliations of accounts and maintaining documentation for audit trails. Auditing accounting transactions. Reconciling general ledger accounts; preparing accounting reports. Assisting with conducting complex financial studies. Identifying accounting situations or problems. Making recommendations for the adaptation of internal controls and ensuring the reliability and security of funds and records. Administrative Duties Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two (2) years of progressive experience performing the related duties such as: processing and reconciling financial transactions, assisting with preparation of financial reports, and verifying accuracy of financial data. In addition - Applicant must have a bachelor's degree earned at an accredited US institution in accounting or related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. This can include up to six (6) hours of business law. Applicants must submit an official transcript that verifies a degree in accounting or related field and 24 semester credit hours in accounting in order to be considered. If applicable, your application package must include a foreign credential course by course evaluation of all foreign transcripts. Acceptable foreign credential equivalency reports must be provided by organizations that have current membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE).
