Bank Staff Accountant (Long-Term Temporary)

Remote Mondays & Fridays, In-Office Tues-Thurs) CornerStone Professional Placement is seeking a Bank Staff Accountant for a long-term temporary engagement (4-6 months) with a financial institution in Fort Worth. This role will support critical accounting functions during an active period of transition and process improvement. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who can step in, take ownership of the close process, and contribute immediately within a banking environment.
Responsibilities:
Execute key components of the month-end close, including journal entries and financial adjustments
Complete balance sheet reconciliations with a high level of accuracy and follow-through
Review financial activity and identify discrepancies, trends, or unusual variances
Support preparation of internal financial reporting and analysis tied to bank operations
Collaborate with leadership on balance sheet forecasting and reporting needs
Assist with audit readiness, including documentation for external auditors and regulatory agencies
Maintain organized and compliant workpapers for internal and external review
Contribute to regulatory filings and internal audit support efforts
Utilize Excel and Jack Henry systems to manage and analyze financial data
Provide input on process improvements as the team works through system changes
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
3-5 years of true bank accounting experience
Hands-on experience with month-end close and reconciliations
Strong attention to detail and ability to work through discrepancies independently
Proficiency in Excel; experience with Jack Henry or similar banking systems preferred
Ability to jump in quickly and operate with minimal supervision
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Exposure to audits or regulatory reporting is a plus
Experience with system transformations or process improvements is highly preferred
