We also offer training for graduate and postgraduate students pursuing licensure in the mental health field. Position Summary Reporting to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer, the Senior Accountant/Analyst plays a critical role in managing and improving the organization's accounting systems and processes within a $3M budget nonprofit. This part-time position (16 hours per week) is hands-on and responsible for key accounting functions including month-end close, financial reporting, and grant-related accounting, ensuring full compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. Within the scope of a 16-hour weekly schedule, the Senior Accountant/Analyst will contribute to budgeting, audit preparation, and financial analysis to support data-informed decision-making across departments. Prioritization, collaboration, and attention to detail are essential as this individual works closely with program leaders to ensure financial transparency and operational efficiency. The position includes access to information of a confidential nature. Strict adherence to agency procedures and protocols is required. Essential Tasks Accounting & Finance Oversee daily accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, prepaid schedules, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations. Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and support financial statement preparation. Prepare and analyze financial reports (Budget vs. Actual, YTD Comparisons, etc.) to inform leadership and board-level decision-making. Maintain and optimize the accounting software system (QuickBooks), ensuring accurate reporting, system integrity, and data security. Review and analyze EHR reporting for client billings for accuracy and timeliness. Assist with budget preparation, accounting manual updates, and annual audit coordination. Review daily deposits of donor contributions, including checks, credit card, and EFT transactions. Review semi-monthly payroll and serve as a back-up to HR as needed. Maintain organized and confidential accounting files and records. Participate in special projects and ad hoc reporting requests from leadership. Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Grant Administration & Management Support full-cycle accounting for government and private grants, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with funder requirements. Monitor and reconcile grant-related expenses to ensure alignment with budgets and eligibility guidelines. Assist with grant tracking, reporting, and cost allocation across multiple funding sources. Maintain organized grant records, files, and supporting documentation. Operations Support benefit invoice reviews, business and health insurance renewals, and other financial or administrative operations as assigned. Provide analytical support for operational and financial initiatives. General Lead or assist in special projects and ad hoc analyses as requested. Support continuous improvement in internal financial and administrative processes. Desired Knowledge & Skills Advanced understanding of nonprofit accounting and fund accounting principles. Experience in a mental health or human services nonprofit preferred. Proficiency in QuickBooks (Intermediate/Advanced) and Microsoft Excel (Intermediate/Advanced). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with cross-functional teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive information. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and multiple deadlines. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of nonprofit accounting experience in roles such as Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or equivalent. Demonstrated experience with fund accounting and functional expense allocations. Familiarity with GAAP, financial reporting, and grant compliance. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and donor databases. Job Requirements Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
