Job Description

Position Summary Build more than projects, build financial clarity in the field. As a Project Accountant, you will be a key partner to Project Managers and field teams, translating day-to-day construction activity into accurate, actionable financial insight. From mobilization through closeout, you'll help drive cost control, ensure billing precision, and maintain compliance with contract terms, playing a vital role in keeping projects profitable, on schedule, and financially sound. This role works out of our Columbus, OH office and has the ability for hybrid work schedule.
Key Responsibilities Own Project Billing & Cash Flow:
Lead the preparation and submission of owner pay applications and subcontractor billings, ensuring alignment with contract terms, schedule of values, and project progress to support healthy cash flow
Drive Job Cost Accuracy:
Review and process subcontractor and vendor invoices, ensuring proper coding, contract compliance, and accurate reflection of field production and committed costs
Maintain Contract & Compliance Documentation:
Track lien waivers, releases, insurance certificates, and other critical construction documentation to mitigate risk and support contractual obligations Partner with
Field & Project Teams:
Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Operations to monitor budgets, job costs, and cost-to-complete forecasts, ensuring alignment between field activity and financial reporting
Strengthen Cost Control & Forecasting:
Support job cost tracking and maintain accurate project financials in the ERP system, providing real-time visibility into cost performance and potential risks
Lead WIP & Profitability Analysis:
Assist in preparing Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, revenue recognition, and variance analysis to accurately reflect project status and profitability
Support Core Accounting Processes:
Prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and contribute to month-end close with a focus on construction-specific accounting accuracy
Excel Reporting & Analysis:
Utilize advanced Excel functions, formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools to prepare financial reports, identify trends, and support data-driven business decisions.
Enhance Project Financial Reporting:
Assist in developing and delivering reports that provide insight into project performance, budget variances, and operational efficiency
Ensure Payroll & Labor Cost Accuracy:
Review payroll allocations and labor reporting to ensure accurate job costing and compliance with payroll and tax requirements
Uphold Audit & GAAP Compliance:
Maintain organized audit trails and ensure all financial activities adhere to GAAP and internal controls, particularly in relation to construction revenue recognition
Drive Project Closeout Success:
Support financial closeout of projects, including final billings, retention tracking, reconciliation of costs, and completion of all required documentation
Meet Critical Deadlines:
Manage billing cycles, reporting timelines, and close schedules to ensure all financial deliverables are completed accurately and on time
Resolve Cost & Billing Issues:
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between field reports, invoices, and financial records to maintain accuracy and trust across teams
Collaborate Across Functions:
Act as a financial liaison between Accounting, Operations, and Project Teams to improve communication, transparency, and project outcomes
Leverage Construction Systems & Tools:
Utilize ERP systems and Excel to streamline reporting, improve data accuracy, and support detailed project analysis Commit to
Continuous Improvement:
Stay current on construction accounting practices, contract structures, and systems while demonstrating accountability, integrity, and teamwork Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or a project-based environment High degree of Excel competency -advanced Excel functions, formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools Working knowledge of construction accounting concepts, including job costing, progress billings, retainage, and cost-to-complete forecasting Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems Familiarity with construction accounting software such as Sage 100 Contractor, CMiC, or similar systems preferred High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management abilities Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across project teams, field staff, and accounting functions Why 3C Industries?
