Candidate must reside in Michigan or Ohio. Positions at the college are subject to review to determine eligibility for hybrid work including presence on campus.
Position Summary:
The Restricted Funds Accountant works within the Financial Services Department and interacts with a wide variety of members of the college community. The position will have accounting responsibility for an assigned portfolio of grants and other externally funded projects. This role ensures that all restricted funds are managed in accordance with sponsor intent, applicable regulations, and institutional policies.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor and manage financial activity for restricted funds; including federal, state, private, and foundation awards. Escalate critical issues to management in a timely manner to avoid compliance risks or penalties. Ensure expenditures comply with sponsor terms, institutional policies, and applicable regulations (e.g. Uniform Guidance). Review and approve transactions for allowability, allocability, and reasonableness. Prepare reconciliations, journal entries, and adjustments for restricted funds. Prepare reports and monitor receivables for federal, state, and other agencies. Coordinate requests from college management for grant/contract modifications. Research ongoing changes regarding grant compliance. Analyze restricted fund payroll each pay for proper coding: Collaborate with various grant areas to resolve issues. Provide payroll details to the Financial Aid Department for Federal Work Study students. Organize and track Time and Effort reporting documentation. Maintain documentation of grant agreements, budget modifications, and financial transactions. Support internal and external audits, including federal single audits and sponsor-specific reviews. Other duties as assigned.
Related Duties:
Partner with the Office of Grants Development & Management to ensure proper fund stewardship. Assist other restricted funds staff in preparation of reconciliations and reports. Provide training and guidance to faculty and staff on restricted fund policies and procedures. Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements and financial controls.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 2 - 4 years full-time successful professional accounting experience OR equivalent education and work experience. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, Internet applications in a Windows environment, and integrated software systems. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work and solve problems independently and organize workload. Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and ethical financial practices.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Grant accounting experience and knowledge of OMB circulars highly preferred. Ability to interpret complex funding agreements and translate them into compliant financial practices. Experience with financial systems (e.g. Banner, Chrome River) and strong Excel skills.
Pay:
$53,924.00 - $59,136.00 per year
