Reporting to the Controller, this position plays a critical role in maintaining GAAP compliance, strengthening internal controls, and supporting audits and leadership decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Accountant:
Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly account reconciliations Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP Oversee and reconcile payment and donor subsystems (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, credit cards) Review contracts, grants, and donor agreements for proper revenue recognition Manage grant budgeting, tracking, and financial reporting Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable aging Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Support year‑end audits, compliance audits, and Form 990 preparation Identify and recommend process improvements and internal control enhancements Participate in special projects such as systems implementations and reporting initiatives
Qualifications of Senior Accountant:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field 5+ years of accounting experience Nonprofit accounting experience Strong knowledge of GAAP Experience with accounting systems; Intacct highly preferred Advanced Excel skills Detail‑oriented, proactive, and deadline‑driven Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset #
