Job Description

Derivative Accounting Specialist Responsible for day-to-day derivative accounting activity and supporting Commercial Operations. The position also has responsibility for ASC 815 (FAS 133) compliance including commodities, foreign exchange, and interest rate transactions.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for recording month-end derivative accounting journal entries. Responsible for preparing monthly and quarterly reconciliations and analysis of derivative results. Responsible for meeting with regional accounting teams to review the impact of derivative activity. Responsible for ensuring all documentation requirements of ASC 815 are met on a timely, accurate basis. Perform derivative accounting research including writing technical accounting memos. Work with the Commercial Operations and Risk Management groups to proactively address the accounting implications related to new derivative transactions. Support derivative accounting system updates. Partner with other business units and/or departments to identify and facilitate business process improvements. Assist with tracking, analyzing, and reporting all derivative transactions including the preparation of related footnotes in SEC filings. Monitor the internal control environment and ensure compliance with SOX Sec. 404 legislation as it relates to the work processes within the derivative accounting department. Assist with special projects as requested.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid work schedule; a combination of working remotely from home and 3 days a week in the office. Open office environment. Some overtime is required as special projects arise. Limited travel (
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in accounting with at least two years of experience in general financial accounting and reporting. Experience with complex accounting issues, derivative accounting, or technical accounting. Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers. Ability to work independently in team-oriented culture in a fast-paced environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with SAP or similar ERP system is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Aligne/Zai•net or similar trading system is a plus. Prior experience in the energy industry or similar commodity-based business a plus but not required.
CPA, CPA
eligible, or pursuing CPA is a plus. MBA is a plus.
