Job Description

Description:
The Senior Staff Accountant will ensure complete and systematic accounting records of receipts and disbursements in the organization by performing complex clerical and bookkeeping tasks and applying accepted procedures in preparing and maintaining account records. This position is full time, on-site in Munising, MI. On occasion, work from home is permitted. This position is eligible to receive medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off, and retirement benefits. Essential functions include but are not limited to: Assists in preparation of financial reports and accounting statements. Complete balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare and post journal entries to general ledger. Reconcile cash deposits from the Hospital and Clinic. Prepare and process accounts payable. Prepare and process payroll and payroll reports (on limited basis). Reconcile bank activity to payment files. Troubleshoot any issues. Sales and use tax report preparation. Assist with external audit data requests. Assist with pulling data for cost reporting and any other governmental audits.
Requirements:
Professional Requirements:
Thorough understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply them to everyday operations. Work independently and prioritize completion of tasks. Constructive communication and ability to work within a team. Ability to be resilient and solution oriented when faced with obstacles. Accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Microsoft Excel (pivot tables). Desire to learn new regulations, as the healthcare industry changes rapidly. Completes annual education requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook), and accounting/healthcare software
Education/Experience Requirements:
Associates degree in accounting or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 2 years of healthcare accounting experience (strongly preferred). Accounting experience in other fields can be a substitute for the above.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Requires normal vision range. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Requires repetitive motion, including data entry and filing.
