Staff Accountant

Description Position Overview Robert Half is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Full-Time Engagement Professionals team and support a well-established organization in Downtown Houston. This opportunity offers the chance to contribute to a collaborative accounting team while gaining valuable experience in a dynamic, close-focused environment. The accounting team is experiencing continued growth and is seeking an accounting professional who can assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger activities. This role provides long-term project stability, exposure to a sophisticated accounting operation, and the opportunity to work alongside experienced accounting professionals. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, thrives on meeting deadlines, and is comfortable partnering with multiple departments to support accurate and timely financial reporting. Requirements Key Responsibilities + Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes + Prepare, review, and post journal entries + Perform balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations + Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for close activities + Support cash accounting and expense-related close responsibilities for assigned departments + Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information needed for timely and accurate close completion + Assist with general ledger maintenance and month-end reporting requirements + Ensure accounting activities are completed accurately and within established deadlines + Participate in process improvement initiatives and support ad hoc accounting projects as needed Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field strongly preferred + Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience required + 4-6 years of accounting experience preferred + Solid understanding of general accounting principles and month-end close procedures + Strong attention to detail and organizational skills + Proficiency with Microsoft Excel + Ability to manage deadlines and work effectively in a close-driven environment + Industry accounting experience is a plus but not required + Ability to work in a project-based accounting environment and adapt to evolving business needs + Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new processes and contribute to accounting teams with minimal ramp-up time Systems & Tools + SAP + Concur + Microsoft Excel Previous SAP and Concur experience is preferred; however, candidates with experience using similar ERP systems are encouraged to apply, as training will be provided. Work Environment + Collaborative accounting team consisting of three Staff Accountants and a supportive management structure + Hybrid schedule with a typical expectation of three days in-office and two days remote + Accounting team generally aligns onsite on Wednesdays + Close periods are worked fully remote + New hires should expect additional onsite training and collaboration during the first approximately 90 days Additional Information + Month-end close typically lasts approximately four business days + Quarter-end and year-end close periods may require additional time and effort + Overtime may be required during close cycles + All accounting responsibilities are Houston-based with no international reporting hours or offshore schedule requirements Robert Half is the world's first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
