Staff Accountant Work Arrangement :
Hybrid schedule: Monday and Friday remote; Tuesday through Thursday in our Winston-Salem, North Carolina office.
Role Summary:
The Staff Accountant supports payroll, tax reconciliation, and compliance activities in a government contracting environment. This role helps ensure labor costs are accurately recorded across payroll and timekeeping systems while maintaining compliance with DCAA and Department of Labor requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing & Compliance:
Process end-to-end, multi-state payroll and ensure compliance with SCA wage determinations and Health & Welfare fringe benefit requirements.
Timekeeping Integration:
Process payroll to align labor distributions with Unanet timekeeping reports and reconcile payroll registers to the general ledger to support accurate indirect rate calculations.
Tax Reconciliation:
Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations for payroll tax filings, including Forms 940 and 941, state and local filings, and W-2s. Resolve discrepancies in partnership with the Tax Team.
Labor Distribution & Mapping:
Review time sheet exports to ensure labor is charged accurately to direct, indirect, and overhead accounts in accordance with contract requirements and DCAA guidelines.
Audit Support:
Maintain audit-ready records for DCAA and Department of Labor reviews, including labor distribution reports and SCA compliance documentation.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
SCA Expertise:
Knowledge of SCA wage determinations and fringe benefit tracking.
Technical Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualities:
Audit-focused attitude with strong understanding of DCAA labor charging guidelines. 1-3 years of accounting or payroll experience in government contracting. Familiarity with complex fringe reconciliations. Experience with Unanet ERP and ADP Workforce Now. Analytical thinking to identify and resolve labor mapping issues between payroll and ERP systems with a high level of accuracy.
