! Staff Accountant Responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records for the organization; preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports; supporting payroll-related accounting, tax filings, accounts payable activities, audit preparation, and budget development; and performing other accounting and finance duties as assigned. 1. Prepare and maintain accounting records, including financial statements, schedules, and other financial reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with department standards. 2. Audit, reconcile, and monitor group home accounts and other assigned financial accounts. 3. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile general ledger accounts in a timely manner. 4. Prepare, analyze, and document journal entries and account reconciliations to support accurate month-end and year-end close processes. 5. Compile and analyze financial information, investigate variances, and resolve accounting discrepancies. 6. Maintain organized and complete financial records and supporting documentation. 7. Process payroll and related accounting activities accurately and in a timely manner, including payroll withholdings, payroll reporting, and related accounts payable reconciliations. 8. Process purchase orders, disbursements, and other accounts payable transactions in accordance with established procedures. 9. Work with retail store operations to accurately record sales activity and prepare sales tax reporting to the State of Rhode Island. 10. Assist with the coordination of outside audit activity, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents requested by external auditors. 11. Prepare financial and operational reports for leadership, including the Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Program Officer, as requested. 12. Support the Chief Financial Officer in annual budget preparation, financial analysis, and special projects. 13. Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and external contacts in a courteous and professional manner. 14. Conform with and abide by all federal and state regulations, company policies, work procedures, and instructions. 15. Provide support to the finance office in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer, as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required; 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience preferred. Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close activities. Experience with payroll accounting, audit support, and accounting software required. Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated competencies in financial management, ethical conduct, organization, analytical thinking, thoroughness, and time management. must have and maintain a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle and driving record must meet insurability requirements; E-Verify approval at time of hire; must not have any disqualifying crimes in a current BCI and/or NCIC criminal background check; This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
